Respiratory Therapy

The respiratory therapy department is comprised of a group of specialized healthcare practitioners who have graduated from an accredited college and passed a national board certifying examination.

The respiratory therapists are specialists and educators of the cardiopulmonology system. The respiratory therapy department specializes in modalities such as nebulizer therapy, ventilator management, oxygen therapy, CPAP and BiPAP therapy. They also work alongside providers to assist in C-sections, intubations and extubations as well as providing pre-op incentive spirometry, pulmonary function testing, electroencelography testing and stress testing.

WHAT IS THE RESPIRATORY THERAPISTS JOB?

A respiratory therapist is someone who cares for patients that have trouble breathing; for example, from a chronic respiratory disease, such as asthma or emphysema or COPD.  They also provide emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, stroke, drowning, or shock. Mostly all respiratory therapist work in a hospital setting, like the ones you will find at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
